Vehicle insurance is a legal requirement to drive a motorised vehicle on UK roads. Broadly speaking there are two levels: Comprehensive and Third-Party.

COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE

A comprehensive vehicle insurance policy covers your vehicle for damage caused during a collision, whoever is at fault. It also covers damage from natural disasters, fire, theft, and vandalism.

THIRD-PARTY INSURANCE

Third-party insurance only covers damage caused by vandalism, fire, or theft. If you are involved in a collision which isn’t your fault you can claim for damage caused. Your insurance provider will claim the cost of repairs from the insurer of the person responsible.

Most vehicle insurance policies carry an excess, which means there will be a (usually) small sum payable by you, the policyholder, towards the cost of any repairs. You may also lose your no-claims bonus, although most insurers now offer the option of protecting your no-claims bonus in the event of a claim.

Vehicle insurance policies do not cover replacement parts and/or repairs due to worn or malfunctioning parts.

To make an insurance claim following damage to your vehicle’s exterior, you will need to follow the process of having the damage assessed by your insurer, and your claim approved. Once that process is complete, Smooth as Glass in North Shields will provide an estimate and carry out the work required following approval from your insurer.
