Alloy Wheel Repairs

Whatever damage your alloy wheels have sustained, Smooth as Glass can arrange to return them to showroom condition.

We have a number of repair methods available to us to remove scratches, scuffs, and dents; even CNC diamond-cut machining and powder coating to restore the whole wheel, if necessary.

At Smooth as Glass in North Shields, our alloy wheel repair process comprises the following steps:

  • Assessment: First we need to assess the extent of the damage. One of our skilled alloy wheel repair technicians will remove the wheel(s) and do a thorough examination to ascertain whether repair is possible or if a replacement is required.
  • Cleaning: Before any repairs can be carried out, the wheel(s) need to be thoroughly cleaned which allows for a clear, clean view of the damage and will ensure the very best repair.
  • Straightening: alloy wheels can easily become bent out of shape due to impact. Rest assured, Smooth as Glass has all the equipment necessary to straighten your alloy wheels and ensure they are perfectly balanced when put back on.
  • Welding and cracks: A crack in an alloy wheel doesn’t necessarily mean a new wheel is needed. Cracks in alloy wheels can often be repaired by a skilled technician with the correct welding equipment. At Smooth as Glass we have both.
  • Filling and Sanding: Scratches, dents, and kerb damage are usually repaired with the use of an appropriate filler. Once dry the filler is then sanded to achieve a smooth finish
  • Painting: Once the repaired damage has been prepped for painting, our technician will colour-match paint to your desired colour. A clear coat is then applied to achieve the desired finish and shine.
  • Curing: Once the paint is applied, the wheels are put into a specialist oven to allow the paint and clear coat to dry and harden properly.
  • Buffing and polishing: After the paint is cured, the repaired area is buffed and polished to ensure a seamless blend with the rest of the wheel’s surface.
  • Quality control: Every alloy wheel we repair goes through our rigorous quality control procedure to make sure the finish is perfect.
  • Balancing: Prior to being put back on your vehicle, each alloy wheel is balanced to ensure vibration-free, smooth driving.

If you are unsure whether your alloy wheel(s) can be repaired, pop in or give us a call and we’ll be delighted to advise you with no obligation whatsoever.
